      <image:caption>Yoga contains the ancient holistic wisdom of India. It is a practical, methodical and systematic discipline for unfolding the unlimited potentialities of humankind, handed down to us in the form of Living Tradition and systematized around 200 BC by the Sage Patanjali in the form of Yoga Sutras commonly known as ASHTANGA YOGA. The term YOGA is derived from the Sanskrit root “YUJ '' which means to unite, integrate, and restrain. There are many definitions of Yoga including: Caraka: To create balance in mind, body and senses.  Patanjali Yoga Sutra: Cessation of all mental modifications Gita: Perfection in action The Ashtanga Yoga practice of Patanjali encompasses almost all the procedures available in different Yoga forms and can be practiced by a person of any faith, and is relevant for us even in modern society.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Yoga is a 5000-year-old ancient practice that originated in India. Backed by clinical research, yoga benefits and balances physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our lives. It helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as improve heart health by decreasing BP, HR and lowering cholesterol. Yoga also helps to increase strength, flexibility and balance, decrease chronic pain, and reduce inflammation. By engaging in yoga practice, we are able to promote healthy eating, increase the quality of sleep and improve breathing thereby benefiting overall quality of life.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>In the first week of March 2022, our FitKarwaan Team participated in a FitKarwaan Social event at a local restaurant (whilst following all COVID-19 protocol). There was amazing food, our Calgary participants shared how FitKarwaan has played a positive role in their lives, and we took some time to appreciate not only our stellar instructors and facilitators, but some of our most dedicated participants. It was great to meet many participants in-person for the first time!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Events - Excess VAT Removal Program (EVATR)</image:title>
      <image:caption>“VAT” stands for Visceral Adipose Tissue aka "Belly Fat", which is an indicator of heart health. In this this two week program which ran from December 19 2021 to January 2nd 2022 (2 weeks), our instructors delivered specialized classes focused on targeting belly fat. We had stellar turnout with over 200 participants that regularly attended and most saw visible results of reduction in their waist line or/and firmer stronger core. Through this program we not only provided a mechanism to feel good but look healthier. In addition to this, "Off the Mat" practices aided EVATR. This included lifestyle tips such as starting the day with big glass of warm water with fresh lemon and ginger juice, food tips which included omitting of white refined sugar and replacing it with a piece of fresh fruit, or using honey, agave or pure maple syrup (in limited quantities) as a sugar substitute, eating fibre-rich foods, incorporating fermented foods in your diet, eating slowly, and carefully reading food labels.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>In September 2022, all FitKarwaan Members joined together for 30 days to pray for the children whose bodies were uncovered in unmarked graves across Canada. The impacts of colonialism and Residential Schools are still hurting Indigenous people today, and it is our responsibility to learn more about how we can do our part to support them. Indigenous peoples have some of the poorest health outcomes in the country, and FitKarwaan pledges to do all to stand against discrimination, and support our brothers and sisters.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The FitKarwaan team had the opportunity to host a week-long Yoga retreat in the spring of 2021 which featured morning and evening yoga sessions. Here, over 200 members from 15 cities worldwide attended. The evening sessions were special Restorative Yin Yoga designed by Dr. Punam Chohan and focused on rehabilitative poses to help us destress, and detoxify.       <image:caption>MD., MSc., CHNC, RAc, YCB Certified Level II Yoga Wellness Instructor Founder, Executive Director and Instructor After obtaining her Medical Degree (MD), Dr. Punam Chohan practiced Internal Medicine in India. She then pursued her Master’s Degree in Cardiac Physiology at St. Boniface Research Center, with the University of Manitoba, a Centre of Excellence in heart research in North America. Dr. Chohan’s research on heart disease and diabetes has been published in various high-impact factor peer-reviewed medical journals and book chapters. She has presented her research at many conferences and lectures nationwide.  After working in clinical research and the pharmaceutical industry for many years, Dr. Chohan developed a deep passion for holistic, alternative medicine as well as Yoga wellness. To pursue this passion, she obtained a degree in Holistic Nutrition (CHNC) and Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (DTCM and RAc). Through her clinical practice, she creates health and wellness programs based on the latest scientific research to deal with health issues such as mental health, diabetes, heart disease, and women’s health.  Dr. Chohan has been practicing and teaching traditional forms/protocols of Yoga aimed at healing different systems in the body. In her spare time, she finds the most joy out in the wilderness, meditating in Alberta’s Rockies, ravines, and rivers.</image:caption>

She received her Yoga training in Mumbai, India and has been teaching Yoga for the last seven years. Her Yoga style is “The Iyengar Way” which is known to enhance physical, mental and emotional well-being. For many it is the key to a happy life. She considers the body a “Precious Gift”, and Doing Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation is the best way of taking care of this Gift. She teaches her students to keep practicing Yoga and make this a part of their daily life. Manil loves to spend time with her family and friends, enjoys cycling and walking in nature, and experiments with different cooking styles.</image:caption>
